So how does this cool looking app work??
deseta emojis work in 3 different ways:
1.) For iPhones: a Sticker Pack that you can use while you are in iMessages
2.) For Androids and iPhones: a Keyboard that you can use in multiple messaging apps, including Whatsapp, Viber, and Facebook. (Note that these are the apps that the keyboard works best with. As messaging apps keep evolving and new platforms keep getting introduced - such as Snapchat, Fitbit - we will continue to release new versions that will work with them as well)
3.) For Androids and iPhones: a Standalone app that can send the emojis through multiple platforms via the app itself
4.) For Androids: a sticker pack extension that is easily accessed across multiple messaging apps via the Gboard
Once you have downloaded the app, you will see step-by-step instructions that will guide you through the installation process. You can always find these instructions again at any time in the settings of the app itself, when you open it up on your home screen. Note that when you use these emojis/stickers, they will be added as an image to your message, and not as inline emojis that are embedded into your text.
Wait a minute...why am I being told to allow deseta emojis keybaord full access to my phone??
PLEASE NOTE: Apple allows 3rd party keyboard apps full access to the phone in order for the copy and paste function of the emojis to work. Although full access is required, we will NEVER access any data for any reason at any time.
Hey, wasn't this app going to go by the name Burnt Face Emojis?!? What was up with that?!
Yes, that was the original name of this app. In Ancient Greek, dating back to 800 bc, the word "Aethiop" was a vague term used to describe all of Africa and inhabitants, and it's most common literal translation means "burnt face". This term is rooted in the country name of Ethiopia today. Understandably, without context, that name and meaning can sound downright bizarre. Almost too bizarre to be offensive. It is even argued that the term was purely descriptive, as it was coined at at time prior to modern day racism. Homer once wrote that "Aethiops" had a "blissful existence due to their proximity to the sun (causing them to be "burnt"); living amid a flood of light, free from natural moral defilement".
But...if the intention of the term was indeed derogatory, then as "Aethiopians," we are subverting colonial mindset and owning our beautiful Burnt Face blackness with pride. The name was to be just part of why this app breaks the mainstream. However, in the end, Apple suddenly decided it would not allow this name in it's store.
Understood! Now is there anything else to know about this app?
